Media Mover Overview

Media Mover provides accelerated transfer of files and folders between Agents. Any Agent on any supported platform can perform transfers using Media Mover's standard job templates.

Media Mover also provides support for file operations as part of a job workflow.

Before you can transfer files using Media Mover, you must add and configure your jobs using one of the four Media Mover job types. You must also configure any Agent groups for local storage.

Job Types

Media Mover offers four job templates:

MediaDropBox - Transfers files from one folder on a source Agent to one or more destination Agents or workflows.

MediaAggregator - Aggregates files from multiple source Agents to a single destination Agent. Transferred files can be stored on a per Agent basis, or in a single folder on the destination Agent.

MediaDistributor - Distributes files from one or more folders on one source Agent to one or more destination Agents.

MediaReplicator - This job type replicates a large number of files from one folder on a source Agent across multiple destination Agents. MediaReplicator is intended for use when files are not changing or growing in size during a transfer. This job does not do readiness checks and features a Synchronize Target with Source option that removes files from the destination when they are absent in the source folder.

File Transfer Direction

Push Transfers

The Media Dropbox, Media Distributor, and Media Replicator job types follow a push transfer model.

For push transfers, the Manager connects to the source Agent. The source Agent then connects to the destination Agent.

Multiple destination Agents can be specified - a one-to-many model.

Pull Transfers

The Media Aggregator job type follows a pull transfer model.

For pull transfers, the Manager connects to the destination Agent. The destination Agent then connects to the source Agent.

Multiple source Agents can be specified - a many-to-one model.
